Are all sessions mandatory: No. We build a progression into the teaching of skills, so it is worthwhile to attend as many sessions as possible.
I am already associated with a club, can I still participate: Yes, there are no problems from our side. Since we do not have weekend events or play games against other clubs there is no conflict. There is, however, still a possibility of overlapping practice time.
How do I Apply: To apply for a position, fill out the Application form under the Information header or contact us through Bearspawbasketball@gmail.com. We will contact you with the needed particulars via email. No money will be accepted until the application has been screened and accepted to ensure that the Academy has not been sold out, and the player fits the requirements for the Academy.
Are there tryouts: No. We will accept players until we reach the maximum of 30 players. We will place on a waiting list if desired.
Am I guaranteed a spot when I submit my application form: No. The form will still need to go through the screening procedure. You will be notified via email on acceptance.
How do I pay: Do not pay until the player has been accepted. Payments will be accepted by cheque or eTransfer to BearspawBasketball@gmail.com
Is there a boy's Academy: Not at this time. The Academy is restricted to girls aged 12-18
Is there a Drop-In fee: Yes, but unfortunately, we can not tell you if a spot will be available. We are restricted to a maximum of 30 players.
How do I order Swag: The shop is still under construction. Once examples are available you can order with an email or in person at the sessions.
Where do we practice: Currently we have secured the Mross Gym at Bearspaw Christian School for this season.
Will they play competitive games in the Academy: Yes. The end of each session will conclude with 15-20 minutes of competitive play where the players are divided into in house teams and these teams will compete during the length of the Academy. We do this to allow players to practice the skills they are learning within a competitive environment.
Are there weekend games: Not planned. Some players have asked if they can be part of the CMBA Spring League. This is possible in a couple ways. The players can set up their own Team where BBA will supply gear and insurance, but the BBA coaches' contracts do not require additional coaching responsibilities. The players can join another Spring League team while continuing on with the Academy
Are you part of PGC: Not really. We are a partner with them and have attended many of their sessions (which are excellent and highly recommended). We are a good fit with their outlook and strategy. With the current partnership we can apply for a fee reduction and/or financial assistance for the players to attend their camps.
